The widget has two functions:
- Automatic monitoring
When a crash is detected (the phone is subject to sudden motion) an alarm will go off. If this alarm isn't canceled within 60 seconds an SMS will be sent to a pre-configured number, alerting the receiver that the sender might have been in a crash. The SMS will contain the current location of the sender, retrieved using the phone's GPS (if available).
- Manual
The alert SMS can also be sent deliberately by pressing the manual button on the widget.
NOTE!
On some phones the accelerometer (which is used to detect crashes) is stopped when the phone is locked or sleeping. On these phones EmergencyDroid can only detect a crash when the phone is active. To address this issue EmergencyDroid will keep the screen on when automatic monitoring is active. This will of course increase the battery consumption but since the intended use is in a vehicle a battery charger can then be connected.
When the alarm goes off, an alarm sound will be played at maximum volume, so please turn off the automatic monitoring when not being in a vehicle to prevent the alarm from going off at inconvenient times.
